Sewer Pipe Relining in Perth
Your sewer line runs underground for decades without a second thought, until it blocks, cracks or starts letting tree roots in. We reline it from the inside: a resin-saturated liner cures in place inside the existing pipe, so there is no trench across the lawn, the driveway or the reticulation.
- Inspected on camera before we quote
- Suits clay, cast iron, PVC, concrete, copper and asbestos cement
Cured in place, not dug up
The liner bonds to the inside of the existing pipe and forms a new structural pipe within it.
Asbestos cement, dated honestly
Most AC sewer pipe in Perth was laid between the 1950s and 1980s, which puts a lot of it near the end of its working life.
Full length or a point repair
We scope the damaged section first and only reline the length that actually needs it.
What sewer relining actually does
Sewer relining, known technically as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) repair, replaces the inside of a damaged sewer line without removing the pipe itself. A liner impregnated with resin is fed into the existing sewer through an access point, most often an inspection opening or a cut in the line, and pressed against the pipe wall. Once it cures, the resin sets hard and the liner becomes a new pipe bonded inside the old one, so there is no need to expose the pipe along its length. Paving, garden beds, retaining walls and anything else sitting above the line stays exactly where it is.
Why sewer pipes fail in Perth. Most sewer failures we see come down to a small set of causes, often stacked on top of one another. Age is the biggest: pipe laid decades ago was built to the standards and materials of its time, not today's. Tree roots follow moisture and find their way in through a joint or a hairline crack, then widen the gap as they grow. Perth's sandy soils move more than clay-heavy ground does, particularly through a dry summer, and that movement puts pressure on joints that were never designed to flex. Corrosion adds a fourth cause for pipe made of certain metals, working from the inside out rather than the outside in.
Which of these is doing the damage in your case depends heavily on what the pipe is made of, which is why we inspect on camera before we say anything about a fix.
How each material fails
Clay. Clay pipe laid 40 to 80 years ago becomes brittle with age, and its joints are the weak point. Roots invade at the joint first, then the surrounding clay cracks as they thicken.
Cast iron. Cast iron corrodes from the inside and builds up scale as it does, which narrows the bore and eventually flakes away, leaving pits and, in older sections, holes right through the wall.
PVC. PVC is younger stock but not immune. Ground movement can crack a joint or split a length that was laid without enough bedding support underneath it.
Concrete. Concrete sewer pipe deteriorates with age as the surface wears and the reinforcing inside it is exposed to moisture, weakening the wall from within.
Copper. Copper sewer and waste lines corrode under Perth's water chemistry over time, thinning the pipe wall until it perforates.
Asbestos cement. AC pipe was standard through the 1950s to 1980s and a lot of it is still in the ground. We do not handle or certify asbestos removal ourselves: what we do is assess the pipe on camera, tell you honestly what we found, and advise on the right next step for that section.
Who this is for. Sewer relining suits any Perth property with an ageing or damaged line, but the job looks different depending on who owns the decision and who lives with the disruption. Every job starts the same way regardless: a CCTV inspection first, so any repair is scoped against what the camera actually finds. See CCTV drain inspection or the full relining process for how that carries through to the finished liner.

A CCTV inspection tells us exactly what's wrong with your sewer line before we talk about a fix.
